Jewelry Care

Please understand that your plated jewelry will slowly fade and often tarnish after exstensive wear and use. There are steps to help minimize this though :)

Plated jewelry, as the name suggests, has a thin layer of precious metal (ie silver, gold, rhodium, platinum) over a base or inexpensive metal (ie zinc alloy, brass, stainless steel). 

Since the precious metal layer is very thin, friction between your skin and the plated jewelry can slowly rub off the plating. Also, exposure to water, sweat, soap, perfume and other chemicals can cause the plating to fade.

To take care of plated jewelry, please consider:

• Keep your plated jewelry away from chemical products like detergent and personal care items like perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, and creams.
• Acidic food ingredients like tomatoes can impact the gold plating which can cause it to flake or wear off more quickly.
• If the jewelry does get wet, wipe it immediately with a soft cloth.
• Plating is sensitive to water, so avoid wearing your plated jewelry when you’re showering or even washing your hands!
• Chlorinated and salt water can damage and discolor your jewelry so it would be a good idea to take off your plated jewelry before you head to the pool, sauna, or any body of water that it will be exposed to for long periods of time.
• If you do forget, wipe or clean your jewelry pieces with a mild liquid soap or cleaning solution. Dry with a soft cloth.
• Avoid getting the jewelry wet with your sweat. Remove the jewelry when you are going to engage in some strenuous physical activity.

• Do not store or keep several plated jewelry in a single bin. Several plated jewelry in a single bin will rub or scratch against each other and will cause the plating to fade faster.
• Try storing your jewels in a plastic or jewelry safe bag. You'll want to make sure you get rid of as much air as possible before sealing it. With the air removed, the metal won't be able to oxidize from the air.
